A frosty fairway drawn in charcoal and pencil
Cold mornings on the course have a look of their own, and this drawing catches it. A pale sun hangs low between bare trees. The fairway runs straight away from you in long stripes of white and grey, like frost lying on mown grass. Far off, the ground rises to a few soft shapes that look like bunkers by a green. Everything is charcoal and pencil on white paper, with a faint warm glow around the sun.
It is a picture for the golfer who still turns up in January with a woolly hat and a flask. Because it is black, white and grey, it goes with almost any colour scheme. It looks smart in a modern flat, a home office or a hallway, and it pairs well with a black frame or a metal print.
The original is tall, with a lot of striped fairway in the front. On the framed canvas and the metal print, the wide crop keeps the sun, the trees on both sides and the stripes leading in, and loses some of the foreground. Our golf Christmas gifts page has more ideas for the colder months.
