One golfer walking up the last at sunset, in glowing oil
Every golfer knows this walk. A lone figure in a flat cap carries his bag up the final slope towards the green, where a red flag catches the last light. The sky behind is on fire in gold, orange and violet. Dark trees frame it on both sides, and his long shadow stretches back down the hill towards you.
"Up the last" is golf talk for playing the final hole. The paint is thick and swirling, with deep indigo shadows against bright gold, so the picture glows even from across a room. It suits a living room, a den or the wall above a desk, and it is a fitting gift for a retirement or for anyone who plays late on summer evenings. Our guide to golf retirement gifts has more ideas.
The tall version and the mug show the full sky and a deep stretch of grass at the front. The wood print and the poster crop to a wider shape that keeps the figure, the flag and the trees, with less sky and less foreground.
