Two friends walking the last fairway at sunset, in rich oil
Two women walk towards us down the last fairway, chatting as they go. Each pulls a trolley with an upright golf bag full of clubs. One has her hair in a ponytail and wears a lilac top; the other has a short bob, a pale blue top and a white glove. Behind them, a flag stands on the green against a sunset of gold and violet, with dark trees along the skyline and long indigo shadows on the grass.
It is painted in an oil style with loose, rich brushwork and strong light from behind. It is a picture about friendship as much as golf: the round, the walk and the talk. That makes it a thoughtful present for a golfing friend, a sister or a partner you play with. It looks lovely in a living room, a bedroom or a hallway.
The framed poster shows the full sunset above them. On the canvas and the other wide formats the sky is cut down to a strip, and the two women, their trolleys and the flag fill the frame. The mug crops in closer still, to the pair from the waist up.
