Gorse in Bloom: Retro Golf Art

Gorse is the spiky shrub that covers rough ground in bright yellow flowers, and on plenty of courses it is where a wild tee shot ends up. In this picture it is everywhere. Big banks of it line both sides of a green fairway that snakes up the hill. Near the top, a tiny golfer stands by a green with a yellow flag and a small bunker. Round trees sit on the horizon under a blue sky streaked with flat bands of cloud.

It is drawn in a mid-century poster style, with flat shapes in just yellow, green and sky blue. It feels like the first warm day of the year. That makes it a cheerful pick for a kitchen, a child's room, a sunny hallway or an office that needs some colour.

The framed poster shows the whole thing, sky included. On the canvas and the metal print the wider crop drops most of the sky and the bottom of the fairway, so the gorse, the winding strip of green, the golfer and the flag fill the space.
